Have you ever noticed all the signs on the side of the roads in Medford?
- Construction companies: whenever someone is having any sort of work done, the contractor puts up a sign.
- Real Estate - house for sale, sold, rent, etc.
- Political candidates or parties
- Commercial Advertising - Blow out Ski Sale... who cares?
It's getting pretty bad. Some neighborhoods (Centennial Lakes, I believe), ban all roadside signs, including "for sale" signs. I think this is how the whole town should be... it's cleaner and more relaxing.
What gives the Extreme Ski shop the right to pollute Medford with their advertising? Why is it that contractors automatically feel that they have the right to place advertising on each homeowner's property that they are doing work at? Isn't the homeowner already paying them for the work?
Chapter 113 of the Medford Twp. Municipal Code states...
No person shall Litter the streets, public places or public or private properties within the township with any merchandise or printed material.
113-14. Violations and penalties.
Any person violating the terms of this chapter, whether as principal, agent or employee of another, shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine not exceeding $500 or to imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding 90 days, or both, in the discretion of the sentencing court.
What do you think? Is it getting out of hand? If one business in Medford is allowed to put signs up on the side of streets all over town, including residential neighborhoods, why wouldn't other businesses follow suit? |
