Construction
is proceeding on schedule for the Al Canale Memorial Fieldhouse, at Hartford
Crossing Recreational Complex on Church Road (across from Lenape High School).
The fieldhouse will replace an old trailer that served as the snack bar and
announcer's booth. It will consist of 2 stories on a basement, and it will
include restroom facilities, a kitchen and snack bar, and team locker rooms.
The second floor will have picture windows that raise the announcer and game
officials up to an eyeball height of roughly 16 feet.
Funds
for the field house were raised over the past few years by MYAA Football
volunteers, with help from many area businesses. The work is being supervised by
Bob Meyer Communities, and many contractors donated substantial time and
materials. A Goal Line Club was organized in 2002 in order to help make this
long standing goal a reality. Fund raisers included sales of t-shirts and
other clothing and souvenirs at games, sales and advertising in an annual
yearbook, and fund-raising events such as candy sales.
The new fieldhouse will complement the new turf which was laid this past
summer, and the lights which were added to the outfield of the T-ball baseball
field, allowing the 3 youngest football teams to practice after dusk in the
fall. Thanks again to MYAA and all the coaches, volunteers and businesses
who helped get this much-needed work done. The field house is due to be
completed during the summer of 2004, in time for the fall football season.
