Indictment Returned Against Christopher Kornberger

Mount Holly: Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi announced today that a Burlington County Grand Jury has returned a fifteen-count indictment charging Christopher Kornberger, age 19, of 188 Mill Road, Marlton, NJ with multiple offenses. The Burlington County Grand Jury has indicted Christopher Kornberger in connection with three separate incidents which took place in May 2003, August 2003 and November 2003 within Evesham Township, NJ.

Specifically, Mr. Kornberger was indicted for one count of Capital Murder in connection with the killing of Krista DiFrancesco, age 24 of Forest View Court, Evesham, NJ on May 10, 2003. The Grand Jury added a count for Felony Murder against Mr. Kornberger in connection with the same killing. The Grand Jury also returned three separate counts each charging Aggravated Sexual Assault upon Krista DiFrancesco and a single count for Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. All of these charges relate to the attack upon Krista DiFrancesco which took place on May 10, 2003 at the Kings Grant section of Evesham Township.

Additionally, the Burlington County Grand Jury has returned two charges of Aggravated Assault, Attempted Sexual Assault and Attempted Kidnapping in connection with an attack upon Elisabeth Loetzner-Jung, a former resident of Evesham, NJ, which took place on August 3, 2003 in Evesham Township, NJ. During that incident Mr. Kornberger is alleged to have used his vehicle to run Ms. Loetzner-Jung off the road where she was jogging in Evesham Township, NJ on August 3, 2003. Thereafter he attempted to sexually assault and abduct the victim but was interrupted due to the intervention of a civilian witness.

Finally, the Grand Jury returned charges of Attempted Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Attempted Sexual Assault and one count of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. All these charges relate to an attack committed upon Nancy Clark on November 3, 2003 in Evesham Township in her development known as the Sanctuary.

In connection with the capital charges against Mr. Kornberger, the Grand Jury was asked to consider two specific aggravating factors under the New Jersey Capital Homicide Statute. The Grand Jury determined that Mr. Kornberger’s conduct involved: (1) torture and/or an aggravated assault upon the victim and (2) that the defendant was engaged in the commission of or an attempt to commit the crime of sexual assault. By finding these two aggravating factors, the State will now proceed against Mr. Kornberger in a capital prosecution seeking the death penalty.

Mr. Kornberger remains in the Burlington County Jail since the time of his arrest on May 14, 2004.
